It also allows you to backup your DVDs and even create DVDs from your webcam/video camera files! Can You Really Watch Quality TV On Your PC?

Version Four of Satellite on TV is available now!

Version Four of Satellite on TV is available now!

I guess the obvious answer is ‘yes’ – many TV companies now have an ‘IPlayer’ (funny how sticking an ‘i’ in front of anything seems to make it sound sort of modern!) which allow you to watch recent programs on their sites, or download them to watch at home. Unfortunately, These are only their own productions and don’t  include premium stuff like like sports or the latest movies. So can you watch the stuff you get on cable TV? The answer is ‘yes, you can’…

Enter TV on PC

There are a few sites on the net which promise to give you access to loads of free TV channels, but in my experience theses are a waist of time – most of their channels are broken and the ones that work are often very poor quality. However, there are a couple of software products which do the job properly. The one I’ve decided to go for is Satellite PC Pro. They claim to have over 2000 channels available and the reports I’ve read say it works really well. Here’s an image of the product in use:

Magniwork - free electricity?

Magniwork - free electricity?

OK, this is an interesting one. I did physics at school and was an electronics engineer before finally becoming an IT guy. I was always taught that you don’t get anything for nothing – you only get out what you put in. The guys from Magniwork have a set of plans that allow you to build a machine (for around 100 dollars) which give out 100% more energy than you put in!

Now, I’m open to new ideas, but this seems too good to be true. I know of underground heating systems which retreive heat from a few feet below ground and, buy using a ‘reverse refridgeration’ system give you more energy out than you put in, but I wonder how the magniwork system acually works. Has anyone tried to build on of these machines? If so does it really work? If  you’ve not heard of this before there is more info at magniwork dot com

The Online Slimming ClubHi all, I’ve been helping out with a new web site devoted to slimming solutions at lazyslimmersguide.com and while researching for it came across a slimming website called The Online Sllimming Club. It’s a bit like a virtual slimming club – it even has a virtual ‘weigh-in’ just like a real life slimming club, but you don’t have the embarrasment of other people watching you get weighed :) .

The site has a nice neat layout and until you register there doesn’t seem much to it. However, enrol for free diet advise and you’re in for a treat (although not too many please! : ) )

I really like this site – you can fill in your basic details for free and in return you are given your ideal weight (you can change it if desired), your BMI, and advice on the amount of calories your require each day. If you decide to subscribe, the diet plan has some really nice features which you can only really get from an online source like this, which has a clever database;- it allows you to:

  • Choose the types of food to eat.
  • Choose which supermarket brands you prefer.
  • Specify if you prefer meals which are quick to prepare.

Weider Body Works ProHi all,

This month (and probably the rest of the year!) sees me on a fitness quest. Well, actually, it’s more of a ‘get rid of that beer gut’ quest, but saying I’m “trying to get fit” seems to impress people more than “I’m trying to lose weight”, where they invariably look straight at my widening waist :( .

Anyway to cut this story a little short I dug my Weider “Body Works Pro” out of my garage last week to begin the long hard slog to my perfectly sculptered body. After half an hour of dusting it down I put on my tracksuit and then, err, did nothing! I couldn’t remember how to use it, doh! I looked high and low for the exercise chart, which I seemed to remember came with the equipment.

Fix sticky pads

Fix sticky pads

It happens to all of us who play saxophone… you take it out of it’s case, start playing your favourite warm-up tune and, well, it doesn’t sound like it usually does, and the keys just don’t feel the same as they usually do. Some of the pads seem a little harder to press  and others don’t lift at all. The ones that don’t lift will often include the G# key.

The reason the G# key is one of the first to be affected is because the pad is moved away from it’s hole by a small spring and no matter how hard you press the G# key, it’s only the spring pressure which will lift it. You can tell if the pad is sticking by pressing the G# key and gently pulling the pad away from the hole – if you feel a little resistance and then the pad move clear of it’s oen free will then it’s almost certainly a sticky pad. If the pad moves freely but flops back, then the spring may be at fault.

I asked my local music store if there was something I could buy to fix this  and they sort of went ‘uhh?’ They said that the didn’t know of any cures and the only fix they new was to renew the pad. Hmm, so much for an ‘expert music store’…

I recently did a blog about dating websites, and I’ve also been helping with a little review site about dating. One of the sites I helped to review was Parship.co.uk. When you register with this site it leads you through a series of questions about all sorts of things – it even show a series of images and ask you to indicate your preferences.

Were we really suited?

What got my attention were questions like:

  • Do you arrange evenings out and holidays well in advance or sort it out at a last minute?
  • Do you sleep with the windows open or closed?
  • Do you feel you HAVE to win an argument?

Time for a change

I’ve been seperated & divorced for a few years now and over that time I have tried most of the popular dating sites. I have to say that I keep coming back to the same one, so I thought that today, as an experienced user, I’d write short blog about it…

There are lots of things which most dating sites have in common, e.g.:

  • You can usually add you profile without having to subscribe.
  • You can wink to other members without subscribing (a pain if you’re a paying member because you quickly realise that 90% of the winks you’re getting are from non-subscribers who a just messing around)
  • Once you area paid up member you can send and recieve mesages from other members. Read More

How to shell an egg

How to shell an egg

Hmm, well, earlier today I was reading a book which details how to do interesting things, and I came across an article entitled ‘How to shell and egg’. Wow! I thought, that IS interesting, about as interesting as Steve Davies in his hey-day I should think :) . Then I got to thinking, actually, I do usually end up with several pieces of small, but unpleasant to chew, shell on my boiled eggs when I cook them. As boiling eggs is the pinnacle of my culinary skills this is an important issue, so I read on. In a nutshell (or should I say egghshell?), this is what you do…

  • Take a teaspoon and, holding the egg carefully in one hand, hit it in the centre with the edge of the spoon.
  • Turn the egg a quarter of hit again, repeat this twice more till you’ve been all the way round.
  • Hit the egg just above the crack, and then squeeze the egg gently in the middle to loosen the white.
  • You should now be able to hold the bottom half and gently rotate the upper shell and pull it off, repeat to release the lower half.

I managed to get this to work after only about 4 goes and once you get the hang of it really does work :) . On the subject of boiling eggs, did you know you can get an automatic egg boiler for under £20.00? Well, you can get one from Cucina Direct - they do an automatic boiler for up to 7 eggs  - they’re great if you like the yolk soft, but like me, always seem to end up with hard -boiled!

 P.S…

Hint number 1: I strongly advise you make sure your egg is hard-boiled before you start (You have been warned by an expert)!
Hint number 2: Leave the egg in cold water for a few minutes after boiling because:
1) It allows the shell to come off easier
2) It doesn’t burn you when you’re working on it (ouch!)

Hi all,101romanticideas

It’s nice and sunny outside and my lilly-white body hasn’t seen the sun for months, so today’s post is going to be a little shorter than my usual ramblings :) . As those of you who know me will know, I’m a sucker for ebooks, especially the ones with about 30 pages of interesting information: Why? Well, they are either free or low priced, you get them instantly, you can print them in A5 booklet form using your own printer (only about 10 sheets of A4 paper), and you can load them to your mobile device and read them anywhere.

So today I thought I would recommend a simple ebook which lists romantic ideas, 101 to be exact. You can download it directly from this site using the link below and it’s completely free! It’s great if you’ve forgotten that important anniversary or birthday.

Get your free 101 Romantic Ideas ebook

(The download link to the item appears on the top left corner of the next page)

P.S. As a ‘web guy’ I like the idea of Item 4 – Keep your eye on this space because I’m soon going to make you an offer you can’t refuse!

Cheers,

Stephen.
