Game Copy Wizard

Game Copy Wizard makes backing up your games and DVDs childs play

If you’re like me and have younger members of the family hanging around you’ll know how easy games CD and DVDs are to ruin with just a few scatches. It’s usually easier to buy a new game than it is to get hold of a replacement :( . Now there is some software available which allows you to backup  you precious Games and DVDs. It costs less than a decent game, and with the cost of writable CDs and DVDs being to little you can back up your entire collection for practically nothing.

The software is called “Game Copy Wizard” and will allow you to backup your XBox 360, Xbox, PS3, PS2, Nintendo Wii, Gamecube, PC, Dreamcast games. It also allows you to backup your DVDs and even create DVDs from your webcam/video camera files! It’s available for PC , all you need is this software, a PC with and a CD/DVD writer installed and you’re away. There’s more information at gamecopywizard.com.

If you have a Mac there is alternative software suitable for the Mac available at EasyBackup.com

Can You Really Watch Quality TV On Your PC?

Version Four of Satellite on TV is available now!

Version Four of Satellite on TV is available now!

I guess the obvious answer is ‘yes’ – many TV companies now have an ‘IPlayer’ (funny how sticking an ‘i’ in front of anything seems to make it sound sort of modern!) which allow you to watch recent programs on their sites, or download them to watch at home. Unfortunately, These are only their own productions and don’t  include premium stuff like like sports or the latest movies. So can you watch the stuff you get on cable TV? The answer is ‘yes, you can’…

There are a few sites on the net which promise to give you access to loads of free TV channels, but in my experience theses are a waist of time – most of their channels are broken and the ones that work are often very poor quality. However, there are a couple of software products which do the job properly. The one I’ve decided to go for is Satellite PC Pro. They claim to have over 2000 channels available and the reports I’ve read say it works really well. Here’s an image of the product in use:

OK, now and then we all make those embarrasing mistakes, the ones we look back on and think oops, and  “I could have saved loads of time if I’d only sat back and thought for a minute”!

So I’d just insalled Wordpress on WAMP (Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP) server and was pleased at how quick the install had been. I made a couple of test posts and all seemed OK. However – when I was editing them there was no WYSIWYG editor. I ran the blog in mozilla to debug it and got the error ’switchEditor not defined’ every time I pressed the ‘HTML’ … tab.

audiophile-USB Sound cardWell, I’ve had this soundcard for a couple of years and have to admit it has always been a pain to get working each time I attempt to use it (which is just as well really, considering my singing voice!). Anyway, to cut a long story short I managed to find a fix that actually works consistently. There is a Windows Service called ‘Windows Audio’ which you can stop before running your music program and this seems to allow my USB soundcard to run in my music program: BTW, I’m using cubasis – quite adequate for my needs. The reason this works is apparently because only one application can access the ASIO driver at a time, and as most applications use Windows Audio, stopping this service did the trick.
