Cycling is one of my hobbies, well not really just a hobby, with an office job I have to do something to keep fit, and this is one way to keep fit where I can take the kids along as well (or rather, they take me!). I’ve always wanted to do some touring on a bike, and now that there are more cycle paths in the UK than ever before I’ve planning to give it a go this summer if the weather is dry for long enough (I have to admit I don’t like cycling on roads, too many people who think it only takes 10% of their concentration
to drive, yeah, right!).
Anyway, I was considering taking the my TOM-TOM that I use in the car, but having looked into it more I realise that it’s a bit bulky, probably not really robust enough for a bike and will need charging from a large 12V battery a couple of times a day. So I took a look round and found that Garmin do a reasonably priced GPSs made specially for cycling AND they have a built in training thingy. I have an original Garmin GPS 12 which I bought new about 10 years ago which I still take with me when I go out on a days walk, and that’s never let me down, so I decided Garmin was the way to go for outdoor GPS…
OK, now and then we all make those embarrasing mistakes, the ones we look back on and think oops, and “I could have saved loads of time if I’d only sat back and thought for a minute”!
So I’d just insalled Wordpress on WAMP (Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP) server and was pleased at how quick the install had been. I made a couple of test posts and all seemed OK. However – when I was editing them there was no WYSIWYG editor. I ran the blog in mozilla to debug it and got the error ’switchEditor not defined’ every time I pressed the ‘HTML’ … tab.
There are quite a few sites around now which claim that aspartame is poisonous. I just thought I’d add my bit to the debate. This isn’t a description of the chemicals which make up aspartame, and the effects it has on other people may be quite different to what it did to me, this is just my story in my own words…
I guess I’ve tried to keep fit most of my life. After too many parties and kebabs in my early 20s I decided to clean up my lifestyle and started keeping (reasonably) fit and eating a healthier diet. As part of that ‘healthy’ lifestyle I ate fewer calories, which meant less fat in my food and diet drinks – I got the taste for diet pepsi quite quickly – there was nothing better than a cold can after a 30 minute jog. AND, as a bonus, my dentist said that I should drink diet drinks because the sugar in normal drinks would ruin my teeth – GREAT! (thinking about it – this was advice from someone who was putting mercury in my mouth!)
Well, I’ve had this soundcard for a couple of years and have to admit it has always been a pain to get working each time I attempt to use it (which is just as well really, considering my singing voice!). Anyway, to cut a long story short I managed to find a fix that actually works consistently. There is a Windows Service called ‘Windows Audio’ which you can stop before running your music program and this seems to allow my USB soundcard to run in my music program: BTW, I’m using cubasis – quite adequate for my needs. The reason this works is apparently because only one application can access the ASIO driver at a time, and as most applications use Windows Audio, stopping this service did the trick.
